The Nashville Parthenon was built in 1897 for The Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition. Extensively rebuilt in the 1920’s. Located in Nashville's Centennial Park. Replicas of the Elgin marbles were are cast from the originals which are in the British Museum. I have been to the British Museum twice and they are amazing but there are people that would like to see them return to their original home.
The interior has a recreation of the statue of Athena. Sculpted by Alan LeQuire in 1990.
The basement of the building houses an art gallery. (Does the real Parthenon have a basement?) The gallery has a permanent display of paintings, the “Cowan Collection” which spans the years 1765-1923.
The Parthenon was recently used in the movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
